“I don’t want to be at the mercy of my emotions. I want to use them, to enjoy them, and to dominate them.” ― Oscar Wilde
This is what I consider the perfect “mommy outfit.” It’s the type of outfit that I would wear to a parent teacher conference because it isn’t too revealing or bright and it’s comfortable. Being a mother doesn’t mean you can’t be stylish and being stylish doesn’t mean that you’re restricted by the societal norms that dictate what’s acceptable. It does, however, mean that you acknowledge them and use them to your advantage. Bright colors and fashion-forward designs aren’t always necessary to bring attention to your style. The classic, timeless, and subdued have the potential to attract the same attention and it’s up to you to determine what and when each is appropriate.
Although I wouldn’t necessarily wear the same thing to a parent teacher conference and a girls night out, that doesn’t mean that I need separate wardrobes for each. These pretty floral pants could quickly and easily transform into an evening outfit by replacing the calm, tan tones with bright, crisp whites for an edgier, eye-popping look.
Bottom line: Know the power of neutrals. Tan can tone down and increase the versatility of those bright, wild-colored pieces in your wardrobe that might otherwise be too overpowering for certain events and obligations.
